Quilts from the Heart

I have one almost finished quilt this week.  It is a Quilt from the Heart (QFTH) made  to wrap up a little person with love.  QFTH are quilts made by various members of my local quilting group,Bay Quilters, to provide quilts for those in need.

Quilt QFTH 1

I made the  quilt top a few weeks ago and one of  the quilting group members volunteered to do long arm quilting.

Quilt QFTH Close Up 2

I love this vintage print with the writing; a few different borders and you get a cute little quilt……

QFTH Back 1

This close up of the backing highlights the beautiful quilting which plays on words in the vintage print.  There are also teddy bears and drums.  Beautiful for a little person.

QFTH Label 1

I just need to finish the binding and apply the label.  I think these labels are fabulous.  I love the washing instructions.  That’s it from me for this week.

Sunny Days & Happy Sewing!

I trust life is keeping you busy as we move towards the festive season. It has been very cold in Melbourne for Spring, however,we are having a few sunny days.  The sun always makes me feel better!  I have a lots of sewing on the go at the moment and I am loving it!  Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming with so many projects but I don’t seem to mind.  Maybe it’s because I can see some progress !!

BringMeFlower 3.1

I have been busy making my blocks of the month “Bring Me Flower”  by Jen Kingwell Amitie Textiles.  I am enjoying making the blocks and keeping up with the pace !

Bring Me Flowers 4.1

I love the mix of colour and fabric choices!  It is very inspiring using some fabric combinations that you may not normally choose and the result is amazing!

My beautiful sewing friends are having and end of year challenge and lace is the theme.  I am not one for incorporating lace into quilts but I have crocheted many years ago and thought it would be fun to make a lace doily centre piece.  I wanted to choose something with a modern twist and was absolutely delighted when I visited Marlize Ries @ Stitch by Stich and found a beautiful Pansy Doily that I felt  had a little of a modern twist!  Thank you for the inspiration Marelize!   The Pansy Doily pattern is as a free PDF download from Yellow, Pink and Sparkly  .   I have used perle 8 cotton, I think it is a bit thin but will keep on going.  I didn’t know whether to use a white centre or keep it all blue.  The one colour version  seems to work for me.  I  put up a photo on Instagram (IG) and low and behold my daughter wants this lace doily and her friend would like some crochet lessons.  Amazing when you are inspired to make something and to see the flow on effect especially when young people take an interest in crafts.

I am supporting the linky parties Anything Goes @ Stitch by Stitch, Quilt Story Fabric Tuesday and WIP Wednesday @ Freshly Pieced.

Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead…..may it be wonderful for you.

Cathy’s Quilt…………

I have been busy working on this quilt top for my gorgeous sister.   The quilt pattern  is from Amitie Textiles and is based on a log cabin.  I am using an autumn colour palette  and I love it!!  I think my sister will  love it too and it will fit in beautifully in her home.

Log Cabin 3.1

The blocks are 15inch and lends itself to showcasing modern fabric.  The fabrics are from Amitie and are a mix of Liberty, Yuwa, Linen and Wool.  I love the difference in texture and prints.

Log Cabin close up 1

This is a close up of some of the prints.  I just love the pixelated  Liberty tana- a mix of black, grey and orange.  The orange and blue circles are Yuwa and these fabrics are soooo…gorgeous.

Log Cabin 4.1

I am planning to add a few more borders to increase the size.  I am looking forward to seeing how this quilt evolves.

A quick post this week….whilst it not a completed quilt top, I am very happy with the progress.

Happy Friday…..It’s Cushions & Medallions

It’s a very happy Friday here in sunny Melbourne!  I am delighted to say that the sun is shining and we are preparing for a long weekend to celebrate the Melbourne Cup.  It is true ….a horse race stops the nation.  A weekend of barbeques, champagne, racing attire and finishes.  I am delighted to have finished some more cushions for my beautiful friend….six completed …two more to go!

Cushion 2.1r

This cushion is a black and white paisley pattern fabric -20 x20 inch square with a 1/2inch border.  The fabric is home décor weight and comes from Ikea.   I made a mix of Paisley and Spotty cushions.

Cushions Mix 1r

The backing fabrics are a mix of green and orange strips.  You can see a little of the orange strip in this pic.   I am pleased that they have turned out well.   Always nice when you are happy with your sewing!!!

On another note…..I just love Medallion Quilts…..do You?  I especially loooove… this one  ……The French Market Medallion!

This quilt is amazingly beautiful. French Market Medallion was designed by  the lovely Judy Newman @ A Very Fine House. I was lucky enough to be at Amitie Textiles, where Judy teaches, to see the quilt in real life and purchase the pattern.  It is a quilt that is just so endearing.  The closer you look at it the more you see…..

I just love the appliqued vase and the beautiful little appliqued birds on the corner of the border.  The border is just so effective with a clever use of fabric.

The following borders of circles are simply exquisite; with a myriad of beautiful fabrics and gorgeous little pinwheels dividing up the circles.  I can’t wait to make this quilt.  If you love this beautiful French Medallion quilt then go check out  Judy’s pattern @ A Very Fine House here!
