Ice Cream Cones & Flowers

I made this quilt for my friend Wendy’s first baby girl. The pattern was designed by Sarah Fielke in her book Material Obsession One . The pattern is  Nosegay but rather than flowers I thought it looked like Ice cream Cones for a beautiful baby girl.  I hand pieced this quilt and then had it long arm quilted!

Zara's Ice Cream 2

I chose pink polka dots for the ice cream and a candy strip for the cones.  The squares of various colours represent jellies!

Ice Cream Cones Close Up 1

I used the  various jelly squares to make a nine patch for the corner borders.  I was very happy with the way it turned out and it was very well received. The blocks are 12 inches with 2 inch sashing and 6 inch border finish.  The fabrics are from my stash.

I have also finished by 12 Fussy Square Blocks for a second round of the Fussy Square Swap hosted by the lovely Amanda @ What the Bobbin.

Fussy Squares Round 2

The squares are 4.5inch paper pieced with 4 inch finish.  I love paper piecing it just gives so much accuracy.  I hope my bee friends enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them.  So much fun!!!

I am posting my Quarter 4 projects for the 2013 Finish A Long hosted by Leanne @ She Can Quilt.  I still have projects from my Quarter 3 list that I have made slight progress but not finished yet.  Here they are….

1.  Winding Ways Quilt

Winding Ways

Winding Ways 1r2

This is a Winding Ways Quilt that I have been hand piecing for my daughter. I have added a few more rows.  I have to baste and quilt.  Hand Quilting I love but timing might not allow it.

2.  Grandma’s Star

Grandma's Star

Grandma's Star 2 r

GS WIP 1r

This is a scrappy 1930 reproduction fabric quilt.  I finished the borders , basted the quilt and I started  hand piecing this Grandma’s Star quilt, in Quarter 3.  It was a big job to finish in one Quarter but I am very happy with my progress.

3.  Triple Irish Chain

Triple Irish Chain

In keeping with 1930’s  this Triple Irish Chain quilt top is  also in need of some borders.  The borders are made up of blocks so a lot of machine sewing.  I also want to hand quilt this one!!  I hoped to work on it in Q3 but haven’t made any progress.

4.  Table Runner.

Tablet Runner 1

This table runner was on my list for Q2 and Q3 and now Q4.  It needs to be finished!!

That concludes my list for Q3.  I’m looking forward to ticking a few off the list.  I am linking up with Leanne @ She Can Quilt for the Q4 2013 Finish-A-Long.  If you haven’t considered joining you should seriously think about it.  It is a great motivator to get those jobs out of the sewing room. Even if you don’t finish and make progress then you are moving toward your goals.    If you don’t make it this year you can always try for 2014.  The Finish A Long is moving to  Katy from The Littlest Thistle in Scotland.

I am  supporting the linky parties  with Fabric Tuesday @ Quilt Story  ,  WIP Wednesday @ Freshly Pieced, NTT @ My Quilt Infatuation, I Quilt @ Pretty Bobbins,   Whoop Whoop @Confessions of a Fabric Addict   and Finish It Up Friday @ Crazy Mom Quilts.  Stop by these wonderful blogs to check out all the lovely projects and/or link up and support them.

Scrappy Quilt Around the World Bee

It really is a Scrappy Trip Around the World Bee and it is being hosted by Julie Hirt @627 Handworks.  I am making scrappy blocks for my Bee friends.  It is a lot of fun participating in this bee and sending goodies off around the world.  It is also very lovely to receive them!

I have completed four blocks and number 5 is on the sewing machine.  It has been fun completing these blocks .  There are a few key points for sewing this block…..a very..very scant quarter inch seam, pressing after sewing each seam and pin pin pinning to ensure seams matched.  I have received two blocks and looking forward to the postman delivering some more to help make my quilt top.

I must say quilting is great fun and participating in the blogging community is even better.  If you have never quilted and are tempted….. check out Sarah’s beginner tutorials @ Sarah Quilts.

I am linking this post up to Quilt Story’s Fabric Tuesday and Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday.  Stop by and check out all the projects on these linky parties.

Hope your week is going well ………..have fun.

Holiday Memories……The Wee Village

I made this fun cushion with felt earlier this year.  I chose to make Wendy Williams ” The Wee Village” pattern because it reminded me of a family holiday we had in Kaiteriteri, New Zealand.  Kaiteriteri is a small holiday resort on the South Island near Nelson.

wee-village-cushion 1

We flew into Christchurch and met up with some family friends and then drove to Kaiteriteri with four families  and lots of children.    As you can imagine there were beautiful hidden treasures on the way….idyllic landscapes filled with farm animals, beautiful trees and gorgeous houses and lots of “ Wee Villages“.  We had lots of fun and laughter and celebrated the new year!   It was a great holiday

I am linking this post up with Fiona @ Celtic Thistle Stitches  Holiday Memories linky party.  Stop by and check out the fabulous holiday memory projects.

Medallions …….

Time travels so fast it really is amazing and it is so hard to believe that October is here!  I wanted to share my medallion quilt with you!

Black & White Medallion 1

I love medallion quilts they are a lot of fun to make.  Especially this medallion as it allowed me to show case this  black and white floral fabric.  Of course I love spots and there is nothing better than black and white.  I hand pieced the top and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Medallion Close Up 1

I machine pieced the backing using the left over black and white fabrics and added  a citrus green spot.   You can see a little of the backing in the pic above. I chose an edge to edge daisy pattern for the machine quilting.

A very quick post for me this week as ill health has me on a go slow.  Sometimes you just don’t get a choice.
