Bay Quilters Quilt In – Wendy Williams

Pattern Wendy WilliamsMarie Wee Village

I had the opportunity to attend the Bay Quilter’s ‘Quilt In’ day with the wonderful Wendy Williams. Wendy presented her amazing journey and showed us lots and lots of the most exquisite quilts. The presentation was wonderful and the quilts were magnificent. Wendy uses wool felt to applique her quilts. I loved the texture it gave the quilts and I just wanted to wrap myself up in them!!!

Wendy conducted a workshop, the next day, to demonstrate and share her wonderful techniques and tips. We had the opportunity to work on appliqued cushions. I chose to work on the “Wee Village”. I just loved working with all the colours and creating the houses. It is such a wonderful feeling to use the embroidery stitches to put them together and the sense of achievement, when created, is just fabulous. You are only limited by your imagination!!.

Wendy is an amazing teacher, she created a relaxed environment that allowed us all to have fun and enjoy our creativity. If you have the opportunity to attend one of Wendy’s classes don’t wait, grab it!!!

Wendy will feature the cushions in her new book with lots of other wool appliqué projects. Given the quality of her work I have no doubt the book will be amazing. I can’t wait!!!! Check out Wendy’s web site http://www.flyingfish.com.au

The Gumnut Quilt

Gracies Quilt Jan13 2Gracie 0113 hquilting closeup

This is a quilt that I made for my beautiful friend Grace, for her birthday. It is a gumnut wreath made with “Under the Australian Sun” fabric by Australian Designer Leesa Chandler (www.chandlerscottage.com). The wreath is machine appliqued, with hand embroidered flowers. I chose to hand quilt using perle cotton.

It was a pleasure to make this quilt with an Australian theme. It allowed me to practice machine applique skills. I quilted lots of love hearts and lines to highlight the wreath. It was fun and I am delighted with the result.

It has been a long time in the making and soon to be delivered to my friend.

Hope you are having a great day! Happy sewing.
