Its a Spotty & Stripy sort of a day………..

Hi All,

I trust you are all well, enjoying the delights of life and are happily sewing.   Well it’s Friday and I have a finish………….

Cushion1 r

I made this envelope  cushion for my beautiful friend.  Can I tell you that it took me forever to cut into the fabric.   I was worried that I would mess up especially when it was for someone else and they supplied the fabric!!!   When its my own fabric I don’t mind so much.  I suppose if you don’t like it you can start again or buy more fabric.    Now that I have made the cushion I love it.  It is very  striking.   There is just something about black and white spots; it just makes colours dance.  The cushion is 20 inch square with an Duck/Down insert and the heavy cotton Black & White fabric was purchased from Ikea.

Cushion Back r

For the back, my friend chose a vintage green stripe also from Ikea.  I really like the fabric combination.  I sewed a quarter inch seam right sides together and then I sewed a half inch seam around the outside edge to give a’ frill like’ effect!  I hope she likes it….

Following are a few pics of my hand quilting to keep you up to date with my progress!

Grandmas Star WIP 3 r

This little star is so soft and I hand quilted it with a Lilac perle 8 cotton.

Grandma's Star 4 r

A little bit of red perle cotton to blend with the scrappiness of this quilt.  If you are new to this site following is a pic of the quilt top………..

Grandma's Star 2 r

I am  enjoying hand quilting this vintage modern quilt with 1930s fabrics.  It is so much fun and changing the colours of  perle cotton for each star makes it more interesting.  That’s it for this week.

  1. What a lovely cushion! I had to go to Ikea for the black and white!
The guilt is georgous! I do not have the patience for handquilting, but It will make your beautiful quilt! I love all those beautiful stars!

  2. Your pillow is wonderful. The frill is sweet. I am sure your friend will be pleased. Great job! And it is a pleasure to see your progress on that lovely hand quilting. I do so admire that. Congrats on the Friday finishes!

  3. Your cushion was lovely too. I hope your friend loves it! I like the edging idea as well. You hand quilting is wonderful, and the quilt does have a vintage vibe. I am not good at hand quilting, and I lack the patience. Last time I tried, it looked like a toddler did it. lol

  4. just found your blog through your comment on Lily’s Quilts about living near Amitie! I am a melbourne girl but living overseas at the moment. I have never visited Amitie as I started quilting after we moved away, but next time I am back a visit is definitely on the cards! Love all your makes, especially your hand quilting 🙂

  5. Hi Marie,
The cushion is stunning! It was a lovely choice of fabric. A quick question for you. Any tips or pointers on setting blocks on point? I’m working on a border where the blocks are on point, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to sew them so I don’t mess it up.
    Take care,
