Hi Everyone…………the weekend is approaching and I am loving my completed foundation pieced Harlequin Star!
My local quilting group Bayside Quilters Inc organized a foundation piecing workshop sometime ago. I love the accuracy of foundation piecing and wanted to add a new technique to my quilting skills. The workshop was focused on a foundation pieced pattern, Harlequin Stars, designed and written by the lovely Emma Jansen of Ballarat Patchwork. The pattern can be sewn with any paper piecing method, however, the workshop focused on a freezer paper technique with a difference. Essentially, the freezer paper is folded back at the seam lines and the fabric is stitched close to the folded edge of the paper. The benefits are that the freezer paper can be reused multiple times and there is no need to rip paper away from the stitching lines. Weeks had passed by and my foundation piecing focus waivered until it was resumed with the love of the Fussy Cut Square Swap that I posted recently.
Now the cutting board is out and more stars are on the way to make this beautiful pattern…………..
The quilt pattern has been photographed with permission of Emma Jansen.
If you are interested in this pattern check out Emma’s shop here! There is a 50% off sale on this pattern at the moment. It is back to the cutting board for me !! I will keep you up to date with my progress………….

This will be a beautiful quilt!! Thank you for linking up this week at TGIFF!!!
Wow! Beautiful star M! Jxo
Lovely. I love the fabrics you’ve used.
Beautiful star and lovely fabric choices!
Your Harlequin Star block is lovely – so pretty in modern fabrics.
Dropping by from TGIFF and CIGAWW – this block just pops with those gorgeous colours against the white background. I do a lot of paper piecing but had never heard of folding the paper back and sewing close to the fold – what a great idea to not have to rip away the paper, well worth a try and I’m so glad I dropped by 🙂
Gorgeous star! Love your fabric choices.
your star looks fabulous! looking forward to seeing more.
Wow that is beautiful! I did my first FPP last night and it took AGES. I have a new appreciation for it 🙂
Love the star block! Your fabrics are going to make such a beautiful quilt!
Thank you so much for sharing at Needle and Thread Thursday!
🙂 Kelly
Our guild’s block of the month is “star” blocks–any old star you want to make goes! Your Harlequin Star caught my eye in my blog feed. I love it! It’s so different. I doubt I’ll attempt it but I love the inspiration. 🙂
Your Harlequin star is amazing!
A gorgeous block, Marie!! Can’t wait to see a whole quilt full of them!! Whoop whoop!!
I love your Harlequin Star- your colour and fabric choices are ‘spot-on’! BTW – thank you Marie for your sweet comment on my blog about my Feathers quilt! (You are a no-reply commenter). cheers Suz
What a beautiful star. I am not fond of doing foundation piecing but you are clearly an expert!
Love your star… looks complicated to make! Congrats!
Looks like a fun pattern! Will you paper piece the flying geese too? Visiting from TGIFF.
That pattern is lovely!!!
